Fans Post Their Favorite Travelocity Roaming Gnome Vacation Photos

Recently a colleague of ours emailed us a picture while she was on vacation. She had surprisingly found a statue of The Roaming Gnome in a dive shop in Abaco, Bahamas (one of summer’s top 10 family destinations) and had sent us a picture of him. This made us wonder: have other travelers also spotted the Travelocity mascot in unusual travel destinations?

So we asked The Roaming Gnome’s Facebook fans and it turns out they’ve had plenty of Gnome vacation sightings all over the world. Fans posted many pictures of the Gnome on his Facebook Wall in places from Arizona to Haiti, and from Puerto Rico to Italy.

New York Times: ‘Use Travelocity to Hunt for Packages’

I’ve made a career out of telling travelers how to save money. My number one piece of advice: Book your flight and hotel together. I stress this so much it’s borderline annoying, so when a story in the New York Times titled When a Vacation Package Can Save You Money (and When It Can’t) popped up in my Google Reader, I couldn’t click thru to read it fast enough. Mostly because I wanted to know exactly when columnist Michelle Higgins says it can’t save you money.

Turns out even she discovered that, while it pays to be a comparison shopper, “the [online] agencies’ pre-negotiated rates with airlines and hotels allow them to create packages at prices that you’re unlikely to get from hotels and airlines separately,” she writes.

For her article, Michelle tested three sites — Travelocity, Expedia and Orbitz — by searching flight + hotel vacation packages for a few different destinations. She not only shopped across all three agencies, but she also shopped the standalone flights and hotels on the supplier websites as well.

In her conclusion, Michelle writes that “Ultimately Travelocity had the best price for two of my searches.” She goes on to give multiple pros and cons for each of the online travel companies she tested before ending with her key piece of advice: use Travelocity to hunt for packages.

Hotels Suffered in 2009, but Service Didn’t

Travelocity’s most recent poll of over 2,000 North Americans revealed that despite the troubles faced by the hotel industry in 2009, the vast majority of travelers felt service was the same or better than the year prior.

69 percent of respondents felt service was “about the same” in 2009 compared to 2008, while 23 percent felt service levels had improved. Topping the list of ways service had improved was shorter lines, more free amenities, and improvement in room cleanliness.  Just eight percent felt service was worse.

Travelocity Traveler Confidence Report Shows Increase in Intent to Travel in 2010

Travelocity’s most recent poll shows a dramatic increase in travel intentions, indicating traveler confidence is on the rise. Travelocity’s second Traveler Confidence Report finds that nearly half of respondents plan to increase their travel in 2010 as compared to 2009.  The Traveler Confidence Report gauges travelers’ plans and attitudes now as compared to six months prior and one year prior. The following findings are based on the intentions of more than 2,000 North Americans surveyed by Travelocity.
