First Time in Mexico

I wish I could have read Genevieve’s enthusiastic endorsement of Mexico before I visited the country for the first time last week, but alas, I only had my family’s swine-flu-and-violence hysteria to turn to. Luckily, I headed south of the border anyway–I’m old enough to know that anything that scares my parents is going to be great fun. Also, I had a work event to attend, and it happened to include five days of sun, sand, and frozen cocktails.

So what’s Cancun like right now?

How Not to Get H1N1 (Swine Flu) When You’re Flying

I’m taking a flight to San Diego tonight, and already I’ve had several people look at me aghast. “But flying!” they say. “The germs! What if someone coughs next to you on the plane? What about the swine flu?”

Of course, Joe Biden’s comments yesterday about “a confined aircraft where one person sneezes….that goes all the way through the aircraft” haven’t helped my case, but I’m certainly not panicking. Not in the least, in fact. Here’s what I plan to do:

1. Give Lady Macbeth a run for her money with my handwashing.
