It's no doubt that the recommendation against all non-essential travel has many people thinking twice about their upcoming trips. Travelocity alone has emailed nearly 14,000 customers about this issue and has had over 30,000 page views to their related FAQ. While most people are opting to change their plans for alternate destinations like Orlando, Las Vegas, Atlanta, the Bahamas, or the Caribbean some people are still chosing to go. If you have a trip in the coming weeks, what will you do?

I can't tell you the answer. That's something each traveler will have to chose for themseves. But I can help offer how to get the facts so that you can make a decision you're comfortable with.

The first place to start is with the CDC (center for disease control, where you can get all of the information on the governmental recomendations for or against travel. They also have a useful set of hygiene tips for travelers who are opting FOR taking their trip to Mexico.

If you do opt to go on your trip, or if you're electing to book for a later date, you may want to consider travel insurance. Not just any insurance will do though. You must be sure to have the kind that permits cancellations for ANY reason. Note that this will cost you extra, but for some, the piece of mind is definitely worth it.

There was also an article in the Atlanta Constitution that says that the air systems on flights actually deters the spread of germs on a plane. I think it sets the record straight and should help healthy people feel comfortable when flying, no matter where they're flying. That said it's always my custom to wipe down the arm rests and tray table at my seat with a disposable wipe when I travel -- so far it has worked well for me.

As the travel advisory to Mexico shifts more people will be facing this question. I hope getting the information straight helps.
