Holy guacamole! The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, just announced the hotel industry’s newest unusual perk: guests can now sign up to serve as Guest Guacamologist during the hotel's evening guacamologist ritual. Guests interested in playing sous-chef to the professional guacamologist need only call the hotel's public relations department for a complimentary slot slicing avocados.
This unusual opportunity brought to mind a few other favorite weird hotel perks:
- Kimpton’s Guppy Love program, supplying loaner goldfish to lonely lodgers at dozens of properties
- Hotel Marcel's limited-time offer of a “tattoo artist in residence” at its New York location
- The Crowne Plaza Copenhagen's offer of meal vouchers to guests who pedal on an energy-generating exercise bike
- The Chicago Marriott Downtown’s lobby grape stomping and its resulting wine menu
- Wacky wake-up calls (courtesy of Second City actors) at theWit Hotel in Chicago
- And, of course, the human bed warmers at England’s Holiday Inns
I, for one, would love to show off my guac skills in Texas. What’s your favorite weird hotel perk—or do you prefer the traditional when it comes to checking in?
