Pity the poor Florida traveler right now. Maybe this is their one beach vacation for the year, the one they’ve been saving up for, and instead of frolicking in the warm waves and pulling up fish from the sea, they’re shivering on the beach in a scarf and wishing for mittens. The current cold wave gripping much of the country is treating Florida especially hard, threatening staple crops like the state’s ubiquitous oranges, and keeping the fishing charters tied up in harbor due to lack of interest.
But all is not lost if you’re a tourist on a Florida vacation right now. Yes, if you were planning on beaches and suntans, you may have to call an audible, but there is much you can still do in the Sunshine State that doesn’t require warm temps and, well, sun.
1. Go to the spa for a hot-stone massage or steep in a sauna
2. Suit up and blast off during a high-octane visit at the Kennedy Space Center
3. Work up a sweat by dancing all night in a Miami nightclub
4. Raise your pulse—and your temperature—with indoor skydiving in Orlando (seriously!)
5. Tour Hemingway’s home in Key West, then retire to your warm hotel room with room service to read Old Man and the Sea
6. Set your mouth afire with Cuban mojo chicken in Little Havana
7. Stroll through warm-weather destinations like Mexico, Morocco, and Italy at Epcot’s World Showcase
8. See if you can stand the heat of staring down an alligator in the Everglades
9. Warm your heartstrings by viewing the monument of love at the Coral Castle
10. Find scorching deals at the hottest designer shops in South Beach

You can also visit Lion Country Safari in Palm Beach County which allows you to stay in your car while you travel through the zoo. Orlando has tons of indoor attractions such as Downtown Disney, Medieval Times, outlet malls, Wonder Works, and the list goes on.
