If chunky ZAGAT guides, pithy gourmet columns, and online restaurant reviews aren't satisfying your cravings, you might want to follow blogger Layne Mosler's example. She conducts her culinary pilgrimages by cab.
Sure, a lot of us have hailed a ride to our favorite restaurant, but Mosler actually takes her cues from the cabbies themselves. Every week, she gets into a random taxi and asks the driver to take her to his or her favorite eatery--and every week, she ends up somewhere unexpected (and often unexpectedly delicious). You can follow her adventures on her blog, the Taxi Gourmet, where she writes about experiences in Buenos Aires and New York.
While it may not be a genius battle plan for picky eaters, there's a lot to be said for a blind-date approach to dining, especially when you’re traveling in unfamiliar territory. First, you've got someone who is a local right in front of you vouching for quality--which is a lot more current than some static guidebook review--and second, you're getting a nice side of adventure with your entrée. And if you end up somewhere that isn't quite your style, well, at least you've got a good story and a doggy bag to take back home.
Next time I flag a cab, I'm definitely asking for some restaurant recommendations. Will you?

Kate, thanks a lot for the shout-out! I'd love to hear about your adventure if you do end up going where the cabbie takes you.
Cheers,
Layne

I ride the Milledge Avenue bus route to and from campus. Tragically enough, I have seen someone on that bus wearing the Uggs and leggings combo at least once every single day this semester. Whenever I witness this atrocity, I cannot help but ponder the motivation behind an act so ugg boots sale heinous. Is it too hard to throw on a pair of jeans? Why do you insist upon showing me your panty line or (even worse) the leggings burying themselves in the deep crevice of your behind? At first I thought it was sheer laziness- perhaps these young ladies just don’t have the time or energy to put on pants that require zipping or to throw pair of shorts over the classic tall boots leggings and resultant panty line. But then I realized that there are many other options (casual dresses, sweatpants, elastic-waisted skirts) that actually require less effort than leggings! So if it isn’t convenience- and we know that it certainly isn’t fashion- why are these girls insisting upon wearing leggings as an classic short boots excuse for actual pants?

I haven't been in any cabs lately, but soon! :)
