Even if the economy is doing a little better, times are still very tough. We've all got stories about how this recession has affected us and many of us are still recovering from being laid off. And if you're anything like me, the only thing that helps you re-focus on what's really important when times are tough is helping others in need.
If you've ever wanted to take a volunteer vacation, you should apply for a $5,000 Change Ambassador grant from Travelocity's Travel for Good program. The deadline for applications is September 30th and we choose two deserving do-gooders a quarter.

The Change Ambassador grant will cover your volunteer vacation program fee (which includes room and board) and your travel to the country up to $5,000. Most Change Ambassadors don't have to pay anything out of pocket and they get to enjoy a life-changing trip to a new corner of the world.

To apply, you simply choose a specific program you're passionate about and fill out the quick online application. We work with four volunteer vacation providers--Globe Aware, Earthwatch Institute, Cross-Cultural Solutions, and American Hiking Society--and any of their trips will qualify.
We've sent big-hearted volunteers to China to teach school children English, Cambodia to build wheelchairs for the local community, the Arctic Circle to monitor the effects of climate change on permafrost, and Brazil to work in a community center. No matter what causes you're drawn to, you can find a trip that's perfect for you.
Hurry--you only have five days left to get your application in. And you can keep reapplying until you're selected!

My name is Shea and I am a 22 year old female who just graduated from college with a Bachelor's Degree in Literature. To celebrate, a friend and I drove across country (USA) from Sept 5th (2009) to Sept 22nd. I have done some traveling in the past to destinations such as Ireland, Germany, and Mexico to name a few. I really enjoy traveling, meeting new people, and learning about history and new cultures. I would love the opportunity to make a difference as well as to explore new ground.
