Labor Day weekend kicks off in less than two weeks, and what we're seeing for the holiday comes to no surprise. Keeping with the trend of 2009, airfare is down year-over-year as are hotel rates. In fact, Labor Day weekend is the cheapest three day travel holiday that we've tracked so far this year.
But, where can travelers go to nab the best deals for the holiday? I've been conducting interviews with media outlets across the country to talk Labor Day travel and have been asked this very question countless times. To find the answer, I looked to Travelocity booking data to analyze the top 25 vacation spots. Here are the big deal destinations that I found:
Domestic Deals for Labor Day Weekend
New York City - airfare down 18 percent, hotel rates down 20 percent
Honolulu - airfare down 13 percent, hotel rates down 21 percent
San Diego - airfare down 13 percent, hotel rates down 23 percent
International Deals for Labor Day Weekend
Cancun - airfare down 23 percent, hotel rates down 27 percent
Toronto - airfare down 14.5 percent, hotel rates down 18 percent
Paris - airfare down 20 percent, hotel rates down 6 percent

It seems as though the prices to Toronto are actually higher than usual. Even the non holiday period is about $150 higher than earlier this year.

Just to give you some more insight on how we collect this data, the prices I've included are year-over-year comparisons to Labor Day 2008. These are also national averages for departures that originate in the U.S., so not every origination point will see the same decline.
If you are looking for deals to Toronto (or anywhere for that matter), I would suggest using a flexible dates search to find the best fare. Sometimes just altering your trip by a day can bring that fare down. You should also research package deals if you need a hotel.

For an exciting weekend getaway during labor day try Portland, Maine. Lots of lighthouses, maritime history, parks, museums and good food along the water front. We loved it.

i just stayed in nacogdoches texas at the econolodge hotel. the manager was real helpful in providing me a local map with the special events in the area. The hotel personel provided me with extra coffee( my weekness) and told me where the local grind your own coffee store was in nacogdoches, texas. the manager went extra lengths to help me with my medical condition both in my room selection and assistance in local pharmacys. I plan to go back labor day and see the local colleges plant gardens and music festival downtown. I recommend econo lodge of nacogdoches texas for a good helpful vacation. diane radabaugh
