Summer starts on Sunday, June 21, and I for one can't wait. Michelle Doucette, our friend and fellow blogger, shared her picks for the world's best places to celebrate the summer solstice with USA Today.
From Cusco to Cairo and Bar Harbor to Barcelona, Michelle's picks for where to spend the longest day of the year are an intriguing mix of domestic and international destinations. The festivals and folklore surrounding the solstice and comprising the list come from IgoUgo.com members and Michelle's vast travel experiences.
This year's solstice falls on Father's Day, so I'll be welcoming summer in my parents' backyard. But next year, I plan to do my summer sun worshipping in Reykjavik.

In summer I'd like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it's hard to understand why people don't stay home.
Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere - anywhere but home.

I agreed that travel has become so expensive and unpleasant in Summer. Apart from the cost, it is precisely the crowding that is causing the unpleasant experience.
Howevver, I do understand that this is the time where school holidays start and this is the time where parents can have a get-together.
Perhaps we should think of other ways to improve this situation. How about haveing school holidays at different time of the year?
