I just opted out of trips to attend the Coachella and Pitchfork music festivals (not that I don’t love me some Palm Springs, Chicago, and Paul McCartney, but I’m saving my travel budget for some other things this year). So I was pretty excited to read today that Woodstock might return for a 40th-anniversary edition, right here in New York City.
We’ll have to wait to see if the idea will materialize, but Woodstock’s founder is reportedly seeking sponsors for a free, environmentally friendly NYC concert, possibly even in Central Park. If it happens, I’ll be among the first to dole out my $2 to travel uptown.
And if an August concert doesn’t pan out, spring and summer visitors to New York can still celebrate Woodstock’s ruby anniversary at the very unique Museum at Bethel Woods. The upstate museum opens a new season this Saturday with an intriguing exhibit of rock memorabilia from the Hard Rock Cafe’s collections.
Either way, a little low-cost time travel sounds smashing for summer.

If opportunity permits, I will visit the intriguing exhibit of rock memorabilia from the Hard Rock Cafe’s collections. This sounds good to me as a summer break.

It can get very hot and humid in NYC in summer, so be prepared.
Just be yourself. The people in NYC are so diverse. The more natural you can be, the better. You'll find most people to be friendly and helpful.
Take advantage of your time by seeing as much as possible. There is so much to see and do. For starters, visit:
Bronx Zoo
Times Square/Broadway (Meal at O'Lunney's Pub off b-way on w 45th or ESPNZone at Time Square)
St Patrick's Cathedral/ Rockefeller Center
Empire State Building
Wall Street/South Street Seaport/Ground Zero
Statue of Liberty/ Circle Line
China Town/ Little Italy
Blue Man Group (Lafayette St in the Village)
See a Broadway show
Museums: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Natural History Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, etc.
